We went to
Cancun, Mexico
over the Thanksgiving holiday.
We stayed at the Omni Canun Hotel and Villas on the Caribbean Sea. A very nice place with 3 pools, 3 restaurants, tennis courts, spas and beach access.
There were Iguanas everywhere in the Yucatan. This one lived at the hotel near the pool.
Parasailing is very popular in Cancun. We took a Jet Ski out to a speed boat and from there ascended into the sky. Cathy went up with Ben and Andy went up with Jake. Ben said that he overcame his fear of heights.
The next day we took a "Jungle Tour" in which we drove a boat through a path in the lagoon lined with Mangrove trees. Then we docked the boats and went snorkeling near the 2nd biggest barrier reef in the world.
We started one day by driving down to Tulum - the ruins from a Mayan city on the coast. A beautiful spot on a hot day - very popular with the lizards.
Right after Tulum we drove 10 minutes to Xel-Ha Park - a fantastic aquatic theme park with snorkelling, scuba diving, tubing, zip-lines, bike riding, cliff diving, hiking and more. It even includes *all you can eat* buffets with great food !
We spent a whole day on a tour to and from Chichen Itza - a very large Mayan archeological site in the middle of the Yucatan Peninsula. Today, you are not allowed to climb the pyramid like I did 30 years ago but it still did not disappoint.
The tennis courts at the Omni were a strange tile surface over a basketball court. But it was still fun to play.
